People
The People domain is focused on the most important priority for our digital initiatives – the citizens of Sheffield. There must be a clear link between a project and the human benefit it provides. Equally, it is of paramount importance that the city’s population has the capacity to take advantage of new ideas and technology.
The People.SHF domain was launched by its Chair, Roz Davies, Director of Social Inclusion at the Good Things Foundation at a well attended event on the 13th July 2018.
The event saw a mix of the public, private, voluntary and charity sectors come together from across Sheffield to discuss one common goal – how we can work towards everyone benefitting from digital in Sheffield.
There are many challenges to ensuring that this goal is reached, not least the fact that over 11.3m people in this country do not have the basic online skills, and that many of these people have complex lives and can experience multiple social exclusion issues.
The challenge is huge and so People.SHF will be focussing on three main themes and; crucially understanding where we can collectively add value:
- Welfare Benefits – digital inclusion and the roll out of Universal Credit in Sheffield from November 2018
- Health and Wellbeing – exploring how digital can act as an enabler to person centred care
- Digital Inclusion – setting up a Local Digital Skills Partnership to focus on helping people with basic digital skills centred on addressing access, skills, motivation and trust
